- Establishing long-term relationships based on mutual trust and transparency with public or private organizations in the areas where we operate is among TÜMAD's goals. We strive to collaborate with public institutions in our social responsibility projects. Our priority is to ensure that these projects benefit the local community within our boundaries first, followed by providing sustainable benefits to the broader society.
Social Impact Assessments
Before implementing projects in the areas where activities will be carried out, expert teams determine how the investment will affect the local community and in what ways. These teams identify social risks of the projects through focus group studies, household surveys, and face-to-face discussions with local leaders. By implementing social projects aimed at reducing these risks, social risks are either completely eliminated or mitigated to an acceptable level through additional projects.
Stakeholder Engagement
TÜMAD's Public and Community Relations departments engage in solving issues, supporting local community activities, establishing honest, scientific, transparent, and effective communication, and maintaining continuous interaction with our stakeholders. In this regard, the Stakeholder Engagement Plan specifies which stakeholders will be reached, how frequently, and through which communication methodologies using written and visual materials. Additionally, disadvantaged groups are included in communication processes with appropriate consultation and participation methodologies, ensuring an equitable approach.
Livelihoods Improvement
In accordance with the Performance Requirements of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), efforts are made to identify the environmental and social impacts of the project and reduce adverse social and economic effects.
Activities aimed at minimizing the potential impacts on livelihoods of local communities, landowners, and users are implemented, and the effects of mitigation measures are monitored. Research collaborations with relevant university departments are conducted to study livelihoods. Key data includes forest land assets, number of farmers, land assets, livestock data, population data, property records, and village/community-level pasture land quantity and use, environmental management plans, and farmer registration system data. Based on this data, numerous projects and supports have been completed and implemented to reduce potential risks, prevent income loss, sustain current income sources (crop production and livestock), and diversify income sources.
